Live a Dream 2026
From 4–10 October 2026, 17 colleagues from across the VKR Group came together in Dobšiná, Slovakia, for a week of hands-on volunteering. Through Live a Dream , they joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to help improve a social service centre for young parents and children affected by intergenerational poverty.
The Live a Dream volunteers stepped away from their everyday routines and dedicated their time to practical work at the centre. The project included work such as fence and window installation, slope stabilisation, sandbox building and other outdoor repairs.
The project brought together colleagues from across the VKR Group, representing both DOVISTA and VELUX and seven countries: New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Spain, Poland, Denmark and Germany.
More than a week of practical work
Live a Dream brought colleagues from different countries, companies and backgrounds together around a shared purpose.
Working side by side gave volunteers a chance to contribute their time and energy while connecting with colleagues they might otherwise never have met. This spirit has been at the heart of previous Live a Dream projects too, where volunteers arrived with different languages, cultures and experiences and worked together on practical tasks.
In Dobšiná, that shared effort helped support a place created for young parents and children. It was a week shaped by practical work, teamwork and people choosing to contribute.
42 million steps joined the effort
While 17 volunteers were working in Slovakia, colleagues across the VKR Group supported the same purpose through Donate Your Steps 2026, held from 1–8 October. The challenge connected everyday movement with support for Habitat for Humanity and its work for safe homes and better living conditions.
727 participants across 175 teams walked 42,758,049 steps and shared 13,202 cheers along the way.
Together, those steps unlocked a €100,000 donation from Employee Foundation to Habitat for Humanity, which was handed over during the volunteering trip to Slovakia.
It meant that the volunteering week reached far beyond Dobšiná. Some colleagues contributed with their hands on site. Hundreds more walked, cheered and promoted the challenge in their local teams.
Different contributions, one shared purpose.
Thank you for being part of it
Live a Dream 2026 showed what we can achieve when colleagues across countries come together and contribute in their own way.
Thank you to our 17 volunteers who gave their time and energy in Slovakia. Thank you also to the 727 Donate Your Steps participants, everyone who cheered, and everyone who helped spread the word locally.
