Town park in Sonneborn

The Sonneborn region is home to many JTJ Sonneborn Industrie GmbH employees and their families, who are deeply rooted in Sonneborn and the surrounding neighboring communities. As such, JTJ Sonneborn is one of the most important employers in the region and strives to contribute to the well-being of its employees and the local community through daylight and fresh air.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Employee Foundation, the works council, and employees of JTJ Sonneborn joined forces with the municipality of Sonneborn to develop a local project to create a community space. The aim was to create open spaces that provide opportunities for a wide range of leisure and recreational activities for all age groups. The resulting square – adjoining the company site to the west and the Sonneborn location to the east – forms the link between the village and the workplace and is easily accessible from both. From now on, this will be a meeting place for young and old, strengthening the connection between JTJ Sonneborn and the community.

However, the project was not only realized in cooperation between JTJ Sonneborn and the municipality. The entire planning was carried out by the engineering company “Planungsgruppe 91” from Gotha. Local construction companies were used to create the square and build the bridge over the small river Arzbach.

The site is beautiful and promotes activity, community, and well-being outdoors – with plenty of daylight and fresh air. We are sure that this newly created space will be a future local point for energizing social events, walks and talks etc. and we already have some concrete ideas to leverage the value of this spot even further.

This involves providing the kindergarten, the elementary school and the Sonneborn retirement home with raised beds in the new square. These will then be planted and maintained by the kindergarten, elementary school, and retirement home. However, a “Staffellauf” as fun fact, starting to be a concrete initiative.

As there is not yet a proper name for our new Green Area, there will be a kind of naming process. We want to involve the employees of JTJ Sonneborn and ask them for ideas on what the new community space should be called.
