Marių Park Island

Marijampolė is known for its beautiful parks, friendly people, young families, and growing businesses, now has another great place to enjoy the outdoors. With more people choosing to spend their free time outside, the city parks are often full of families, active locals, and happy children. This growing popularity has increased the need for more natural spaces where people can relax and breathe fresh air.

For a long time, Marijampolė municipality leaders have been thinking about how to bring new life to Marių Park Island.

This lovely spot, popular with locals and visitors, has always had potential. However, it needed better facilities to make it a comfortable and enjoyable place for everyone, encouraging them to visit again and again.

Thanks to funding from the Employee Foundation of the VKR Group, a new outdoor recreation area has been created. The park now has winding pathways, cozy benches, a sandy beach, beach volleyball courts, terrace seating, a children’s playground, picnic areas, a wooden floating island on the water, lights, and sanitary facilities.

In Lithuania, it is still rare for businesses to invest in recre- ation spaces for their employees or the wider community. However, Karolis Jonaitis, CEO of Dovista UAB, highlights the Danish tradition of caring for both employees and city residents. He believes this is a great example to follow and is proud to see it happening in Marijampolė.

This project shows that Marijampolė is a lively, green city with excellent infrastructure. It is a place that attracts young families, brings former residents back, and offers much to locals and tourists alike. And there’s always room for new improvements!
