Do you dream of a beautiful outdoor space open to the public for activities such as learning, walking, exercising, spending a night in the fresh air, spending time with friends and family, or making your own list of activities for an outdoor space to reconnect with nature?

It can also be a spectacular area further away from where you work and live. Perhaps a national park that would host a project or spectacular nature spot.

The Reconnect with Nature program is now open for applications. It is inspired by and builds on the experience of 15 projects in the Green Areas and Outdoor Life programme. Get inspired by the Green Areas & Outdoor Life Programme.

Getting out in nature and experiencing the beauty and grandeur of it, can be a spectacular landscape or watching birds, insects, plants or a stream. It can be walking, picnicking, building a campfire, running, learning, or doing yoga – the list of activities to enjoy is long.

For the Reconnect with Nature programme, together with NORRØN architects, we have created a range of shelters to meet different needs on the trail. To make your experience out there easier. You can see the different models below. We provide drawings and instructions for sourcing the materials (mainly wood) locally, how to work with a skilled local craftsman to cut, drill etc. the wood, prepare the site and instruct you and your volunteer colleagues to assemble the shelters. We have designed them so that they do not require any special skills to build.

The shelters are made to reflect the VKR Group’s long history of innovation, quality, sustainability and collaboration.

The shelters can be part of your dream application – but this is not an obligation.

Application process and schedule

Please send your application by 19 May 2025.

First round

We support projects that are open to the public. Organisations can apply in collaboration with employee(s) from VKR Group companies. The application should include the location, purpose and what you would like to have in the area of ​​installation, facilities; Name of the host organisation (association, club, municipality, etc.) and an acceptance/recommendation from the landowner and initial sketches of the project. A rough budget estimate.

If selected, Second round

A more detailed and technical application will be required, including a timetable and budget.
